What Are The Akashic Records and How Do We Access Them?
While many have written on this subject, I humbly offer these thoughts at the insistence and support of my guides. As I tell all my clients, take what feels true to you and leave the rest.
The Akashic Records are commonly referenced as the ethereal place where all of history is recorded in the spirit realm. The Records include the details of every lifetime of every soul that has ever existed, to include every thought, emotion, and act. One of the most common misconceptions about the Akashic Records is that it takes special abilities to access them. In reality, this is not a physical place that is separate from us. Rather, the Records are encoded into our being as part of our soul’s lineage and connection to Source. We are never separated from this wisdom because it’s part of who we are.
So . . . it’s not a library? Not exactly. While we may receive visuals of books or a library to indicate we are tuning into the Akashic Records, it is important to note that they are really the boundless archive of our collective memories as souls. This dynamic wisdom updates as we make decisions and manifest our experiences across lifetimes. Since timelines are only a human construct and, given that every lifetime ultimately exists in the grand moment of Now, the Records also hold the knowledge of events that we have not yet experienced (in our human understanding). Trippy right? The important thing to note is that you are the author of your story. And even when you feel alone, you have an entire team of spiritual guides helping you find the path for your highest and greatest good.
How and why should we access the Akashic Records? When I asked my own guides this question, I received the following lighthearted response:
“There are lots of reasons for visiting a library, are there not? To learn something new, to confirm what is known, or perhaps to remember . . ?”
So, let’s explore each of these points in detail.
First, how does one “visit” the library? No need to go out. Go deep instead. This “library” is not a physical place, but it can take the form of one for the purpose of our awareness and understanding. This phenomenon is similar to how spirit can visually present to us with a body so that we can recognize the communicator. Meditation is an excellent tool for quieting the mind and accessing this wisdom. You may find it useful to begin by envisioning a library or opening a book and then asking a specific question. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t have a full vision or hear a disembodied voice reading you a chapter of your own book. All experiences are unique and valid. While a response could be as obvious as a flash of a past life, it could also be felt as a deep sense of peace or wholeness. By setting the intention to access the Records and surrendering to the responses we receive, we can learn a great deal about ourselves and yield the following results:
Learning Something New –The Akashic Records may be effectively used to learn something new about ourselves or others. This is particularly useful when doing healing work. Sometimes the root cause of pain is deeper than one lifetime. For example, I once supported a fellow healer in the clearing of a property with a painful history involving the KKK. Upon tuning in and setting the intention to find the source of the pain, the records opened and revealed to us an even older origin – The Trail of Tears. Unbeknownst to us, this small town had also been a critical junction for this painful experience. Thus, healing needed to occur at this level first.
Confirming What is Known – We may also find it useful to access the Akashic Records to validate our own hunch or to understand our current feelings about something. Perhaps you feel a strong connection with someone you’ve just met and want to understand more about it. Maybe you want to discern your hesitation for doing something. Our intuition speaks from this place of infinite wisdom. A common application of this occurs with repressed memories. If your body remembers something that your mind has deliberately forgotten, the Records can be accessed to unearth this. Please note, that any exploration of repressed memories should be done with care, ideally with the support of a therapist or licensed medical provider. In this way, the Records can provide us with the awareness and validation that we need to heal, even in our current lifetimes.
Remembering – If the above applications sound similar, it’s because they are. Every revelation that comes from accessing the Akashic Records is, in fact, an act of remembering. And this is the key. Accessing this wisdom provides us with a powerful opportunity to integrate parts of ourselves that can serve us in the present moment. Even if it feels like new information, it really isn’t. In my experience, the Records present to remind us who we are and what we are a part of. Whether in meditation or readings, they always present at an opportune time for personal development and healing. It would undoubtedly overwhelm our human consciousness if we became aware of every lifetime we have ever lived. It may, however, serve us well to remember specific experiences. As an example, someone struggling with relationships in this lifetime could benefit from remembering, acknowledging, and releasing a prior experience of loss. In this way, the Records can help us move forward with grace and understanding.
If you are feeling called to explore the Akashic Records on a deeper level, there are individuals who can assist in this process. It is important, however, to use your own discernment when seeking out such services. Just know that you are always connected to this wisdom even when you are not consciously aware of it, and you are continuously supported on your journey towards self-discovery.
