Scary Movies: A Word of Caution From a Psychic Medium

While I know that scary movies are a long-celebrated part of spooky season festivities, I wanted to offer a word of caution on this subject. And no, it’s not about religion. I think this topic is worth discussing because it brings our awareness to a critical fact – that the media we expose ourselves to can, in fact, affect us. So why is this the case? The reality is that all media, to include movies and music, has unique vibrations that interact with us as spiritual (energetic) beings. This interaction is one of the greatest joys that we get to experience as humans, and we frequently use media to enrich our daily lives. Perhaps you have a favorite playlist that motivates you through tough workouts. Would you feel the same effects listening to classical music? Our bodies are naturally aware of which vibrations resonate with us in a given moment and which ones don’t, and we often use media to try to shift our current vibration to a more pleasant or appropriate one. For example, listening to uplifting music or watching funny videos is a common practice for trying to shift one’s mood.

So, what happens then, if we surround ourselves with media that vibrates at the frequency of fear, anger, sadness, etc.? The effects can be just as strong if we don’t properly protect ourselves. I know many people can enjoy a scary movie or sleep soundly after watching true crime. This requires an ability to deliberately dissociate from the content and view it without accepting it as reality. If you can do this, I applaud you for holding a strong energetic boundary. However, as more and more people become aware of their own energy and psychic senses, the need to “bubble” and clear is going to be increasingly important. I encourage you to check in with yourself after listening to your head-banging playlist and after watching that horror film. How do you feel? It’s not a matter of judging this content as good or bad. You need only to decide if it is serving you.

While media can have an energetic effect on us, it is also important to understand that “like attracts like” across all vibrations and dimensions. Yes, this means that the media you choose also attracts beings of that same vibration in spirit. This is the exact reason that I do not, personally, allow scary movies in my home as a medium. When I was kid, I would be bothered for months after watching a scary movie, not because I thought the movie was real, but because I would see and feel beings that had taken the opportunity to join the fun and then lingered. Sometimes all it took was for a friend to tell me about a scary movie for this to happen. This was long before I knew how to properly clear myself or hold boundaries. As another example, my college roommates and I watched a scary movie one evening in our West Point barracks room. For days after watching, our door would slam shut on its own and we even witnessed my shoes flying from the windowsill (where they were drying out) into the middle of the floor. While it is fair to say that the environment does matter for the effects of this phenomenon, it is important to be conscious, nonetheless.

Does this mean that you should never watch scary movies? Not necessarily. Only you can determine which media to allow in your life. If you enjoy them, by all means! I would just encourage you to have a deliberate practice of “bubbling” during the movie and clearing yourself and your space afterwards. I offer this information without judgment, and only hope that it informs your decision-making for you and your loved ones.
